Bodegas Lerma is probably one of the most accredited wineries of the singular D.O. Arlanza. It has 6 hectares of centuries-old vineyards near the winery. The predominant grape variety is Tempranillo and there are also Grenache and Albillo plantations. The winemaker of Bodegas Lerma is Oscar Navarro, with extensive experience, currently also designs the wines of Bodegas Nabal in Ribera del Duero. Oscar Navarro studied oenology at the Escuela de La Vid y El Vino in Madrid, creating his first Ribera del Duero wine in 1992, under the tutelage of the renowned winemaker Luis Diez Gambito. In 1998, Oscar Navarro embarks on a new project with Bodegas Lerma in which he currently continues as a winemaker. He highlights his participation in obtaining the D.O. Arlanza, which arrived in January 2008, as well as the recognition for the Tinto Lerma and Lerma Selección wines and later the flagship of the GRAN LERMA winery. The wines produced by Bodegas Lerma are modern in style, although they continue to maintain the tradition of the Arlanza region and pay close attention to the terroir. The result is fruity wines with subtle touches of wood, well-assembled soft tannins and great personality.
The ducal ville of Lerma is located on a hill that dominates the plain of the Arlanza river, in the province of Burgos. It can boast of a rich heritage, as it is one of the best-preserved Herrerian-style Historic-Artistic ensembles in Spain.
The geographical situation of Lerma is a confluence of strategic roads, which was perfect for so many peoples to settle on their land; pre-Roman, Roman, Swabian, Visigoth or Arab.
It was with the arrival of the first Duke of Lerma, a very influential and valid politician of King Felipe III, when the city was sculpted and designed by the best Herrerian architects, authors of wonders such as its Ducal Palace, current Parador de Turismo, the Plaza Mayor, churches and various monasteries.
